Missing parts and poor instructions
By Chriscar from Santa Fe, NM

This bridge arrived by truck. The trucker OFFERED to bring it 10 miles to our rural house and help us unload it. So far so good. When we began to assemble, which is not for the weak or tool-challenged--a heavy duty electric screw-driver and a drill are mandatory--we found we had been shorted two critical components: two of the posts that hold the railings were missing. In addition, the 3" screws mentioned in the instructions were also missing. Be advised that the screws are construction-type screws for a square driverbit; standard Phillips and slot-type drivers will not work. In addition, the left and right beams that hold up the bridge are supposed to be marked differently for center supports so that one side is staggered from the other. Both of ours were identical, so we had to figure out all the marking on one side ourselves. On top of that, the center beam wasn't marked at all on either side. Some of the screw-holes are pre-drilled, but many are not. For example, the 1 x 6 deck planks are drilled at each end where they are to be screwed into the right and left support beams, but they are NOT drilled in the center where they are to be screwed into the center beam. The instructions are confusing. They tell you certain items are to screwed together with 3" screws, but no such screws are supplied. They tell you to put the center supports where marked on the support beams, and also say to put them flush with the top of the beam. The marks, however, which are exactly the height of the center supports, start a couple of inches below the top edge. What to do? (We put them where the marks were.)So this is not a bridge for the faint of heart. It does seem to be extremely sturdy--we bought the 4' wide version which has a center support beam. I don't know whether the 3' version has a center beam. It is nice looking and we expect to have it and use it for many years.
