Shed Assembly

Thank you for your interest in Fifthroom.com. We’re confident that you’ll love the design, quality, and craftsmanship. We use only top quality materials, like heavy duty plywood and pine. There’s no particle board or left over materials in our sheds. They’re also easy to assemble.

Building a Storage Shed
Step 1: Arrival

Whenever possible, we will deliver your shed using a "No Touch Delivery", where a flatbed truck gently lowers your kit to the ground. Once the kit has arrived, break open the wrapping and begin laying out the pieces.

Step 2: Building the Floor

Remove the plywood from the 4x4 runners at the base of the pallet. Begin construction framing the floor by nailing the 2x4’s together at the corners. Next, rotate the 2x4 floor joists to the 2” side. Nail the joists to the outside framing using the pre-marked lines. Then nail the joists to the runners. Just that quick, you’re ready to reapply the heavy duty plywood flooring. Remember to match the corners.

Step 3: Assembling the Walls

After making sure that the floor is level and plumb, you’re ready for the walls. The walls have a bottom lip, which matches up to the base of the shed. A 2nd person is helpful, so one person can hold the wall, while the other nails the wall to the base. Line up the corners by raising the other two walls. Then for extra support, nail the walls together at the corners. Before raising the door panel, remove the strip from beneath the doors, so the doors may be opened. Nail the door panel to the studs from the outside. Add a few more nails around the inside base of the shed.

Step 4: Roof

Once the four walls are set in place, it’s time to install the roof. Begin by lining up the front framing and nailing it to the wall. Some of our sheds will have notches to guide in the placing although the naked eye is really all you need. Extend the evenly spaced roof rafters across the shed walls and nail the rafters to the plate of the walls. Next, apply the plywood roofing sheets by nailing them to the roof rafters. Then apply the aluminum drip edges by nailing them to the plywood. You may need to cut the excess trim on some of our smaller sheds.

Step 5: Shingles

Now that the structure is complete, it is time for the shingles. The shingles should extend just over the drip edges, and can be applied as many as one nail per shingle. Next, cut your shingle caps, paying attention to compatible shape and consistency. Apply the caps to the ridge of the roof.

Step 6: Apply Door Hardware

Apply the door hardware, and call it a day. You are ready to use and enjoy your Fifthroom.com shed for years to come.

Step 7: Install Siding (Vinyl Sheds Only)

If your shed has vinyl siding, it will be the last thing that you install. Even if you’ve never done this type of work before, our detailed instructions will make it easy, or perhaps your experienced friend will.

Step 7: Painting/Staining (Wooden Sheds Only)

All you have to do now is to paint or stain your shed, if necessary, and look forward to years of enjoyment.
