Charleston Specs



The CHARLESTON shelter is a hexagon shelter with arches which extend from surface level to the roof peak. The Charleston shelter is designed to be surface-mounted.

Shelter Size: The size of the shelter is measured across the shelter along the hip beam line which is the corner to corner width, including the overhang on all sides.

Roof Pitch: 5/12 pitch.

Lumber: #1 grade, Southern Yellow Pine. Kiln-dried to an average moisture content of 15%.

Engineered Drawing: A standard copy of engineered drawings noting components for the standard Charleston model shelter will be included with the shipment.
Notes on installation will also be included with the shipment.
 
THE CHARLESTON PACKAGE COMPONENTS:
Arches
Pressure treated laminated wood arches are surface mounted with galvanized steel “shoes” anchored to the concrete footing. Arch height after surface-mounting is 8’.

Interior Purlins
Laminated wood interior purlins.
Steel plates and bolts that connect the interior purlins to the arches.

Tongue and Groove Roof Deck
2x6 nominal #1 grade Southern Yellow Pine wood decking.

Fascia Boards
2x6 pressure treated, #1 grade Southern Yellow Pine.

Roofing Felt
One layer #30, roofing felt to be applied on top of the wood decking.
 
Design Loads
Standard design load is:
12 pounds per square foot dead load
30 pounds per square foot live load
20 pounds per square foot wind load. (Equates to 100 MPH) *** Pavilions can be engineered for higher wind loads for an additional fee.

Pressure Preservative Treatment for Treated Components, as per AWPA:
Penta-type “C” prior to lamination
Columns - .6 pcf retention for in-ground
Fascia - .3 pcf retention

Manufacturer’s Qualifications: Manufacturer conforms to the manufacturing requirements of the American Institute of Timber Construction Standards.

Protection: Beams and columns are protective wrapped for shipping. Decking is bundled and secured for shipping.

Shipping: Flat-bed, dedicated truck

Unloading: Customer’s responsibility

Equipment Required for Unloading: At least a fork-lift for 16' and 20' wide sizes, a crane for larger sizes.
